Its needles are soft, flat, and dark green, with a silvery-blue underside, giving the tree a unique two-toned appearance. The needles are arranged in a spiral pattern along the branches and release a pleasant balsam fragrance when crushed. Canaan fir produces small, cylindrical cones that start out green or purple and mature to brown in the fall.
